Sometimes it’s easy to forget the true meaning of the holidays. Between the hustle and bustle of stores, to booking holiday travel plans, taking time give back is often overlooked. Nonetheless, there is always a way to make a meaningful difference for those that need it. Therefore, on Wednesday, December 6, 2017, Summit International Flooring (SIF) dropped off an abundance of new toys for the children in the Child Life Department at the Saint Barnabas Medical Center. Located in Livingston, New Jersey, this center works hard to make children feel comfortable during their stay. With any luck, these toys will go a long way in helping them achieve this goal.

“The amount of donations we received for this toy drive was astounding. Although we knew we would be able to count on our friends and families to help donate, we were pleasantly surprised by how many business partners and community members also contributed,” said David Numark, President and CEO of Summit International Flooring. “Having a child in the hospital during anytime of the year is hard enough.

But I can only imagine that hardship grows immensely during the holiday season. Therefore, we wanted do something that would hopefully help families have one less thing to worry about.”

The Child Life Department is designed to provide support not only for the children but to their families as well. To minimize the fear of hospitalization and reduce the stress associated with illness, the Child Life Department addresses the unique emotional and developmental needs of each hospitalized child. Although toy donations are more frequent during the holiday season, The Child Life Staff carefully selects gifts for their children year-round.
