Artificial grass is no longer just for soccer fields.
Artificial grass: all the comfort of grass without the inconvenience of yard work. But for many, when they hear artificial grass, they only think of athletic fields. They think about how rough the blades felt to the touch and how fake they looked to their natural predecessor. Or, if they are living in a city, they might think of artificial grass as the perfect green lawns of the suburbs. But if they are creative, they might be thinking outside the box. Or better yet, inside the box! Why? Because artificial grass is one of the newest design trends in the world of interior design.
Although artificial grass has only recently become popular, the idea of bringing grass indoors was always there. For example, in 2012, Queen Elizabeth’s Diamond Jubilee took place at the York Cathedral in England. It was here where over 900 guests from around the world came together to celebrate the Queen. Yet the real highlight of the evening was something unexpected. The beautiful cathedral was transformed into something exotic with 1500 square meters of real grass laid out on the floors for guests to dine upon.
While real grass is easy to maintain for a short time, it’s not as easy for a permanent installation. Real lawns need sunlight and lots of maintenance to remain gorgeous, green, and alive. Even if you can get real grass to grow, why have year-round up keep if it’s not necessary?
Office Environments:
Your employees won’t need to look for greener pastures when they are working in environments that use artificial grass. It’s important to remember that using this material doesn’t mean the space will have a “pasture” look to it. Many designers look to use artificial grass to give a unique, fun, textured look but not necessarily make it look like the outdoors. For instance, HOK and Skype both incorporated artificial grass into some of their offices. In terms of HOK, hey created a beautiful atrium in their London office. It serves as the perfect location for impromptu meetings, and brainstorming sessions. Meanwhile, Skype went more whimsical with their office space because the designers at Blitz didn’t want to keep the grass on the ground! By embracing the grass, they turned the rec space at the Palo Alto location into a playful environment.
Residential Designs:
Give your clients a theme room that all their friends will be talking about. What child, or even adult, wouldn’t want to have a room like the ones below? From man-caves, to bedrooms, the grass look really pops in any design! Don’t want to commit to a big piece of grass? Simply use it as a center piece for a table. No matter how it is used, incorporating artificial grass, transforms a look from boring to fabulous!
Trade Shows:
When you are one in a sea of hundreds, you want to stand out. That’s why many trade show booth designers are starting to incorporate artificial grass into their designs. It’s the perfect way to turn a cold boring space into an inviting space that stands out from all the rest. Additionally, the artificial grass is becoming very popular with “green” products.
