FLOORING INSTALLATION TIPS

We have the best tips for flooring installation!

You did it!  After days, maybe even weeks of looking through beautiful Summit International Flooring samples, you made a decision (a tough decision) and placed your order for your beautiful new flooring. Now you’re wondering what to do to prepare for your flooring installation.  If so, then we’ve got the tips for you!

Before Installation:

• When a flooring estimate is requested, a team member will come to measure the room and provide an assessment. Typically, installation is included in the quote. Check with your salesperson to be sure!
• Prior to the installation date, you will need to remove all personal belongings from the space the flooring is being installed.
• All furniture should also be removed prior to the flooring installation date. Speak to your installer about any additional costs associated with having them move large pieces of empty furniture.
• Paint, drywall, and plaster work should all be finished and dry before installation. We recommend painting your room at least 24-hours prior to installation day.
• Removal and disposal of existing floors should be done prior to the installation date. Most installers can provide this service for an additional fee.
• The condition of the sub floor must be level. Typically installers can do minor floor prep to smooth the floor at no additional cost.  However, major repairs such as leveling, ramping, and filling of deep voids or cracks are the sole responsibility of the homeowner.
• The room should be set to a comfortable temperature between 60 – 75 degrees.
• Depending on the size of the room and how prepared the room is – it typically takes two (2) installers one (1) day to complete the job.

During Installation:

• It may be required that the doors be removed. If the new flooring is thicker than the previous floor, doors may need to be trimmed before they can be reinstalled. Typically, this is not a procedure that your installer is equipped to handle and it will be the homeowner’s responsibility.
• Woodwork, such as baseboards, and painted areas may need retouching after flooring installation. This is also the responsibility of the homeowner.
• There are a number of dangers that can be associated with flooring removal and installation: injury by nails or tacks, inhalation of dust, contact with possible mildew or mold, etc. The best way to keep everyone safe is to keep all children, pets, and those with respiratory difficulties away from the installation area.

After Installation:

• Once the flooring installation is complete, do a final inspection with the installer. Be sure to bring up any questions or concerns.
• Enjoy your new flooring!
